Tanger: The Big Globe 40 Departure

The ‘’GLOBE40 – LA GRANDE ROUTE‘’ will set off from Tangiers on 26 June 2022…

A unique and highly symbolic event in the history of sailing, the start of this round-the-world race is scheduled for the 1st time in Africa, specifically Morocco.

TANGER: an innovative start for the original edition of an innovative race

At its launch in June 2019, the GLOBE40 made a strong statement about its ambition and values: a round-the-world race that is as much a global voyage, an accomplishment and a quest to find oneself through meeting others, as a sporting performance.

To be true to this commitment, the starting city of the GLOBE40 had to be the first promise; by choosing TANGER as the starting city for the first time in the history of round the world races, the event is fulfilling its ambition.

Could there be a better place than TANGER, with its 2400 years of history, the meeting point of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, Africa and Europe, East and West, as the starting city to express the values of the GLOBE40?

Mr Manfred RAMSPACHER, President of SIRIUS EVENTS

‘Launching the GLOBE40 in Tangier, supporting the development of sailing in this legendary city, and offering Morocco a dream of ocean racing around the world is for me a superb opportunity and an honour. TANGER and its new marina are the perfect setting for this new round-the-world ambition; and I would particularly like to thank all our Moroccan partners who, since the first contacts in September 2019, have never wavered in their interest and support despite the harshness of the health crisis; we are actively working to ensure that this GRAND DEPARTURE on 26 June 2022, preceded by 10 days of entertainment, is for everyone the sign of renewal after the event’.
